Hebe cheesemanii

Hebe cheesemanii is a low growing, rather open, miniature, evergreen shrub, about 6 in (15 cm) tall. The stems are about 0.08 in (2 mm) in diameter, and square in cross section. The tiny, grey-green leaves are tightly pressed to the stems, like a whipcord hebe. Grow in gritty well-drained soil in a rock garden, or as a pan plant in an alpine house.

A true alpine species of hebe found growing on rocks in the drier South Island mountains, to the east of the main divide, from Canterbury to Otago. Named after the eminent New Zealand botanist Thomas Frederick Cheeseman.
